We need to come to terms with the ground realities of class difference — particularly in this modern form of income inequality — and realize it isn’t going to keep getting better for some at the massive expense of others.

Either we start to care for “others” (whoever they are and wherever we encounter them) or we continue to devolve. Even selfishly self-motivated concern would change the terms of engagement. By “we” I mean at the cultural level and in our politics, which can only be generated by the interactions we have with each other and the ways in which we talk about ourselves and others. There are really only two options: us/them or we.
